A French game table with a square top, canted corners and a removable round cornered game top displaying a chess game on top and a leather lined surface underneath. When the game top is removed the tric trac game is revealed, finely veneered in boxwood and mahogany. The holes on the outer frame were thought for game pieces. The whole raised on carved cabriole legs.
Gaming was a favorite pastime in 18th century France, of the many games played, tric-trac, a form of backgammon, was one of the most popular. Similar tric trac tables made for the court are known to be made by BVRB/Bernard I van Risen Burgh.
