Pair of Directoire mahogany side chairs in the manner of Bellange Frères. Raised on turned tapering front legs and sabre rear legs, carved with pierced splades in the shape of a pilaster and adorned with carved paterae, upholstered with dark green leather finished with brass nail heads. The pair is almost identical to a set of mahogany chairs stamped Bellange in the Musee national du chateau de Fontainebleau, the same toupie feet and sabre legs, the splades here adorned by a pierced diamant, while at Fontainebleau by a pierced vase. A restained design in high quality workmanship and solid mahogany.
