Pair of Louis XVI style ormolu candelabras, each with six scrolling candle arms and corresponding sockets and drip plates raised from a foliate cast central baluster. The central shaft emanating from a fluted urn supported by four rams on a square plinth. The square plinth made of mahogany with ormolu decoration. With fine ormolu cast decoration, rich chasing throughout. In the manner of Francois Remond (circa 1747 – 1812, maître in 1774), possibly after a model. Firms such as the Paris firm of Beurdeley were well known for its late 19th century high quality adaptations of Remonds work. Remond became one of the best regarded of bronze gilders, carvers and casters of his time, and the chief supplier of ormolu to the marchand-mercier Dominique Daguerre, although he was also employed by ébénistes such as Jean-Henri Riesener and David Roentgen two of the most celebrated makers of the second half of the 18th century. He had also many private clients including Marie-Antoinette, the Comte d’Artois and the Duc de Penthièvre.
