A finely carved Louis XVI style paintwood armchair or bergère Gondole, in the manner of George Jacob (1739-1814). The incurved high back with a finely carved top rail displaying laurel leaves and berries. The curved stiles flanking the back carved with blue bells surmounted by volutes and patera-faced blockings that also mark the ends of the curved top rail. The armrests are padded and the arm supports extend through the seats to form the front legs. The arm supports are shaped as ornamental columns, each rising from a patera-faced blocking. The front legs are of tapering shape carved with twisted flutes, the back legs slightly raked and splayed. The armchair is painted in white and a pale grey, the grey color generally applied on the flat areas. The padded back, sides and loose cushion covered in a Mark Alexander fabric.
