An excellent Transition Period/Louis XV side table, a so-called “table à la chiffonière” of square shape with canted corners and three lockable drawers standing on four slender cabriole legs with gilt-bronze Louis XV style sabots. The sides and the front drawers of the table with elaborate marquetry of contrasting woods featuring panels with serpentine outline. The top decorated with yellow-rose coloured marble plate surrounded by a pierced brass gallery. The canted corners with Louis XV style gilt-bronze C-scroll mounts, gilt-bronze Louis XV style keyhole surroundings.
The excellent craftsmanship, which is displayed in the well-balanced proportions, the excellent marquetry and the finely chased bronze applications, indicates that this beautiful side table was created by one of the important Parisian workshops, that supplied the French court and the French aristocracy in the middle of the 18th century.
