A 19th century Régence-/Louis XV-style gilt-bronze mounted and marquetry desk of freestanding form. With a brass banded rectangular top inset with a fine mirrored kingwood veneer surface, the brass banding with stylised floral corner cartouches. underneath the writing surface three frieze drawers, each with a banded panel, the central drawer with a Louis XV-style gilt-bronze mounted keyhole, the side drawers with matching movable handles. The three frieze drawers are oppsed by three identical and functional drawers, the sides similarly veneered and decorated with a gilt-bronze mount in shape of a female mask. The knees with elaborately pierced mounts depicting female busts, so-called “espagnolettes”, on cabriole legs with scroll-cast sabots.
