An early 18th century giltwood mirror, with a shaped plate contained within a cartouche shaped frame, carved with a rich array of scrolling patterns, acanthus leaves and detailed floral carvings. The cresting pierced displaying a C-shaped surmount with rocailles. On scrolled feet, the bottom rail centered by a symmetric leave ornament. The lavish generous carving relates to the generous size of almost 3 feet 10 inches height. Stylistically the mirror’s shape and its ornaments relate to the late Baroque period.
Consition: very good. wear consistent with age and use, min. fading, gilding probably later, original gilding left on the back. Mirror plate with some minor corrosion. – detailed condition report on request
