Early 19th Century Biedermeier Mahogany Commode, Berlin, circa 1820
Biedermeier commode with tapering breakfront corpus and stepped pediment, with three long drawers on block feet. The whole veneered with mahogany on pine in book-match pattern – the wood with its grain configuration being the most important motif of decoration in the Biedermeier era. Ebonized oval escutcheons.
The item was part of a private Berlin collection and hast been thoroughly restored by the previous owner.
