An eight-arm Marie Thérèse style crystal chandelier, Austria, circa 1910. The pear-shaped frame supports four arms that folk into two, holding altogether eight lights. The frame is adorned with layers of glass-stripes and rosettes, a trelliswork of interlacing chains of crystal drops connects the structure. Arms and corona hang with cut-crystal pendeloques and prism, facetted ball forms the finial. The folked arms describe a ‘Schönbrunner Modell’ – after the palace Schönbrunn in Vienna, the summer residency of the Empress Maria Theresia (1717-1780). ‘Maria-Theresia-Chandeliers’ were made in Austria since 1730 in a great variety.
