Charming French late 18th century three-leaf screen or paravent made hand painted burlap on wooden frames connected and held together by cloth: each leaf comprising two painted rectangular panels, the base panels being decorated with blue ribbons and foliage against a trompe l’oeil grey marble plate, the upper panels each showing idealized pastoral Southern river landscapes with a central building, peasants at work and a large tree framing the scene.
The screen or paravent comes in its original condition with no recognizable restorations and shows all the traces of its history – which adds to its charm and makes it a wonderful decoration piece for example a dining room, kitchen or winter garden.
