A 19th century Renaissance Revival gilt bronze candlestick on a Belgium black marble base. The socket rests on a four-sided baluster stem; each chased with elongated female-headed birds, so-called harpies, grotesque masks, strap work and acanthus leaves, supported on a circular Belgium black marble plinth. The fine chasing refines the Renaissance Revival design and is a pleasure to observe in its fantastical and grotesque detail as seen on the masks and the harpies.
