Pair of Early 19th Century French/Paris Gilt and Painted Porcelain Amphora Vases
Ovoid body resting on a round foot with rectangular plinth; at the sides a pair of swan headed handles issuing from the body; long nack with broadend rim. White glazerd porcelain partially gilt. Front and back decorated with cartouches showing golden rural and Capriccio landscapes on matte blue background. Underneath each cartouche a grisaille vignette comprising a pair of sphings in Pompeijan style. The sides of the vases show smaller rectangular cartouches presenting swans in gold paint on matte blue ground, each in a different position. Each vase marked “FL” in gold letters at the base.
