Pair of Napoleon III Louis XVI style bronze three light sconces or wall lights:
A rectangular gilt bronze mirrored backplate with a richly decorated acanthus leaf openwork frame, the center of the lower part being decorated by a mascaron of the head of the god Pan; the frame is topped by the laurel-crowned head of Apoll, the Greek god of Sun and Light which here is to be understood as a reference to Louis XIV, who equated himself with Apollo and was often depicted as such in art. As it were from the mask of Pan spring three s-shaped light arms with cylindrical bobeches, which were subsequently electrified.
Unusual, beautiful pair of mirrored Louis XIV style wall lights with fine chiseling and gilding.
Condition: very good, min. wear consistent with age and use, min. fading, electrified – detailed condition report on request
