Of rectangular shape, the lower part of the French Green painted trumeau holding the mirror plate (26.378 in./67 cm x 25 in. /63,5 cm) within a rectangular giltwood frame with floral gesso carving and an ornamental Louis XV cresting. The upper part of the mirror holding an original 18th century painting depicting a flower basket with a lush bouquet of summer flowers within a carved giltwood Louis XV style frame of curvy outline with c-scrolls and foliate elements. Both mirror and painting are flanked by a pair of giltwood panels each holding three carved giltwood Louis XV ornamental vignettes. The trumeau is topped by a stepped giltwood cornice.
A trumeau mirror was originally intended to hang on a wall between windows, providing a decorative element and bringing more light to the room. Due to its green coloured background and skillfully executed decoration it can provide a focus to modern and traditional interior design, perhaps hung above a credenza, a commode or a chimney piece.
