Small rectangular cabinet or armoire standing on a base with short cabriole legs and curvy apron opeing with two doors to reveal the inside with three removable shelves. Both doors and the sides are divided into four-lobed marquetry cartouche panels within frames of curvy outline, each panel quatre-foil veneered highlighting the beautiful grain of the wood. The cabinet is topped by a shaped and profiled Rouge Royale marble slab. The top of the corners decorated with Louis XVI gilt-bronze foliage mounts, front feet and key holes with Louis XV gilt-bronze mounts of fine chasing and gilding. The doors of the small armoire close with an original Pasquil lock.
The small Louis XV Transition period armoire or wardrobe does not bear a stamp that allows to attribute it with certainty to a particular cabinetmaker, but it has the interest of a stencil mark applied 3 times on the back: LBV surrounding a cross of Lorraine. It is probably from the French branch of the house of Lorraine (Lorraine, Bar and Vaudémont or Lambesc Brionne and Vaudémont). Corresponding to this period, we could cite as a possible provenance Louis-Charles de Lorraine, Count of Brionne (1725-1761)
