Fine small Louis XVI period marquetry side or writing table, a so-called “table écritoire” of rectangular shape standing on four slender tapering legs with bronze sabots.
The table comprises of three front drawers, the top drawer reveiling compartments for inkwells and quills as well as a removable wooden cover with leather lining for hiding important things and also serving as a writing surface. The front drawers, the sides and the corresponding stretcher at the lower part of the table are decorated with parquetry field framed with striped banding and bear gilt bronze Louis XVI key hole covers. A mottled grey marble plate serves as table top. To prevent writing tools from falling off the table, the top is surrounded by a small wooden gallery.
With its straight and elegant outline this beautiful small side table or writing table fits perfectly in a classical as well as a modern ambiance and, despite of its small size, offers a lot of storage space due to its three drawers.
