Very elegant late 19th century set of six Italian Neoclassical Klismos shaped Empire side or dining chairs:
standing on four tapering and partially fluted legs topped by paterae cartouches a semi-eliptical seat with slightly curved front. The back with excellently carved ribboned medaillon, the top rail with intricate Neoclassical overlapping circles pattern. The shape of the chairs is based on the remarkable ranked legs of the ancient Greek klismos chair (known from Greek Classical vases and carved stone reliefs). All chairs are decorated with creamy white paint and water gilding and are upholstered with light yellow silky faux-uni fabric, partially stained.
Very elegant, charming and elaborately manufactured set of six neoclassical side or dining chairs.
